By Brian Guillerault (LinkedIn), chair, NTEA Generation Next
First off, I'd like to express how grateful I am to be part of Generation Next. It’s been a catalyst for helping me grow personally and professionally over the past six years in the work truck industry. I’m honored to chair the Generation Next Steering Committee for 2024/2025 and I’m looking forward to another exciting year.
If you attended WTW24 (or any Work Truck Week for that matter), you’re probably feeling the same way that I do: energized, excited, and maybe a little overwhelmed. From the Green Truck Summit to educational sessions and of course the exhibit hall, there are so many opportunities packed into one week. Following are three key actions that can help you efficiently take stock of what you've learned during the event and apply the information in a way that can impact your organization.
- List your top 3-5 takeaways.
If you’re like me, you probably took a lot of notes and pictures. I have a huge collection of digital and written notes on all kinds of useful information from the week. While everything is still fresh in your mind, it’s critical to review, organize and break down that information into practical takeaways. I separate my takeaways into categories like this:
- Educational Sessions – List actionable bullet points from sessions you attended. (Remember, if you registered for a WTW or GTS Conference Package, you can access session recordings and on-demand content until April 18.
- New products/innovations/training – List highlights of new products you saw or in-depth training you received on current products that will help your business.
- Networking/followup – List your contacts who'll need followup activity. What suppliers did you meet for the first time?
-
Share. It’s important to share knowledge with your teammates, coworkers, managers, and leadership team. To help you become a better leader, be collaborative and communicate what you learned and why that information is important to your business.
- Connect. Don’t just throw all the business cards you received in a drawer and let them collect dust – reach out and connect with people you met and see what value you can provide them. Work Truck Week is great for a lot of things, and networking is one of the top reasons to attend. Nearly 16,000 people attended the show this year, which provided endless opportunities to connect with suppliers, customers, and competitors alike. Most of these people face the same challenges that you do on a daily basis, so make sure to follow up with the people you talked to so you can continue the conversation and help each other out.
Take action with these three keys, and I'm confident you'll be well-positioned to add value back to your organization.
