Model 1 opens South Carolina upfitting facility

10/18/24

Model 1 Commercial Vehicles (Indianapolis, Indiana) opened an upfitting center in Summerville, South Carolina – making it the fourth upfitting facility among the company’s 24 locations. The new center extends Model 1’s upfitting services nationwide – with facilities in California, Oklahoma, Indiana and now South Carolina – providing continuity for fleet managers and fleet management companies who want to ensure the same upfit specifications, branding and quality standards across all vehicles coast to coast. The 75,000 square-foot facility, with extended parking, can hold more than 500 units.

“We deliver the same standard and quality of upfit, regardless of which Model 1 upfit center completes the work,” said Nick Perry, Director of Service– Commercial Upfits at Model 1. “By pairing experienced engineers with an extensive upfit training program and vigilance toward consistent installation practices, we are setting the industry standard in uniformity.”

Across all of its upfitting facilities, Model 1 offers full upfitting services for a variety of makes and models, including cargo vans, service vans, specialty vans, utility trucks, service trucks, contractor trucks, box trucks, crane/mechanic trucks, and pickup trucks. Upfitting offered at Model 1 locations includes, but is not limited to: graphics applications, shelving packages, ladder racks, partitions, conduit holders, work benches, inverters, pumps, ladders, and last-mile delivery.

Earlier this year, Model 1 introduced expedited shipping, called the Model 1 Shipthru Solution. “The standard process of commercial upfitted vehicle delivery creates unnecessary complications and delays,” said Jeff Cole, Vice President of Commercial Vehicle Upfits at Model 1. “The Model 1 Ship-thru Solution enables us to take charge of the entire process – from getting the vehicles from the OEM to upfitting them to your specifications and brand standards and delivering or releasing them where you want them, when you need them. This approach significantly reduces the days the upfitted vehicle is not in service, saving customers time and money.”

The company’s national footprint enables Model 1 to address the upfit requirements of different customer types, including those with national, regional and local needs.
