U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual 2.7% rate in fourth-quarter 2022, well ahead of consensus forecasts. This was a deceleration from the 3.2% third-quarter rate. Increases in private inventory investment, consumer spending, federal government spending, state and local government spending, and nonresidential fixed investment were partly offset by decreases in residential fixed investment and exports.
