Vehicle certification considerations when combining new and used components

From an NTEA member
We have customers who want our company to transfer their old truck body to a new incomplete truck chassis. Additionally, other customers want us to refurbish their older trucks using a glider kit (new cab, front axle and frame rails). What does this mean to our company when it comes to vehicle certification?

When combining new and used components into a complete vehicle, there are requirements to assure the vehicle meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). The two different scenarios have differing paths to compliance.  Access an article from NTEA Director of Technical Services Bob Raybuck reviewing each separately.
