Congress approved a seven-week extension of federal funding shortly before the Oct. 11, 2019, deadline. Without the extension, the U.S. government would have been forced to shut down at the end of the fiscal year (Sept. 30, 2019). The extension provides funding, largely at current levels, until Nov. 21, 2019.
This short-term Continuing Resolution provides Congress additional time to complete the 12 annual spending bills for fiscal year 2020.
